On the 29th of November, our fourth workshop was held under the supervision of the Austrian Youth Red Cross. The workshop provided an overview of the International Humanitarian Law with special attention to how it operates with armed conflicts and refugees.
The first half of the workshop was an informative session of the role of the Red Cross during the war and the types of war crimes. There was a great discussion around the various forms of warfare and its regulations.
The second half of the workshop was dedicated to the International Humanitarian Law and the Austrian laws on refugees. The students discussed the current issues of asylum seekers in Europe and how and why governments are responding in various ways. This workshop was not only an informative session to introduce the concept of Humanitarian Law, but also a chance to know the Red Cross and its role during war and conflicts.
