Life’s A Peach

By

Must read 🏆

Freedom comes at a price that can't always be paid with daddy's credit card.

In Life's A Peach by Skylar Senn. The main character, Peach Kenway was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Her family resides in a colonial style manor off the outskirts of London. She's an heiress with a monthly maintenance fee from daddy that she won't touch. It seems that rather than frolic on the grounds of her mansion, complete with marble floors and alabaster walls; she prefers reading and socialising with people from all backgrounds. Then horror of horrors she leaves home at 18 and gets a j-o-b at Atlas Bank (like a commoner no less). Etiquette lessons haven't prepared her for the big bad wolves of the world like her boss and ex-boyfriend, Calvin Conway a.k.a. Fallen Angel.

Peach at the "ripe old age" of almost 30 returns home to the Kenway Manor estate to lick her wounds. She's once again in the loving arms of her family and various staff members. However, with a mother, father, four sisters, and a brother present, Peach soon finds herself rising before the sun just to get some peace and quiet and a hot shower. Just when things can't get any worse, there's a robbery attempt at the bank where Peach works. Her father like any good and wealthy father hires a body guard. Ex-Navy seal Agent Ames Allerton reporting for duty.

The ensuing story reminds me of the romance between Whitney Houston and her bodyguard portrayed by Kevin Costner in the movie The Bodyguard.

Even though this is a romance, it's also a coming of age story. Where the main character is learning life lessons like freedom from fear and obstacles, how to speak her mind, and how to protect herself through self-defense classes. After reading this book, I definitely want to sign up for a few of those myself.

This book takes place in London, England and like most Americans, I love all things British. I especially like the way the British theme is maintained throughout the book with the "East end boys and West end girls" love obstacles. And the fact that Peach and her family dine on tea and scones. Yet at the same time Senn manages to capture the essence of the United States by introducing an American father with a southern drawl, who loves having family barbeques.

I rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars for the charming mix of romance and comedy across two countries (Allerton is also from the U.S.). This book will tickle romance readers from young adults and up.

Will Agent Ames Allerton (I really love that alliteration) win the heart of one Miss Peach Kenway? She claims to hate him, but to quote England's William Shakespeare in his play Hamlet, "The lady doth protest too much, me thinks."

Don't forget to tune into the continuing saga in the next book in The Kenway series.
