The Calm I Seek

By

Must read 🏆

In The Calm I Seek, Christina Lourens spins a romantic tale of loving and losing and learning to love again after tragedy and loss.

The Calm I Seek is not a sappy, unrealistic, romantic fairytale that many romance novels portray. This is a realistic take on how love works most times in the real world. There are ups and downs in love, and Christina Lourens portrays this beautifully in The Calm I Seek. The author shows how damaging assumptions and baggage can be in relationships but also shows the power of forgiveness and redemption.

I wanted to read this book because it did not seem like the cookie cutter romance novels that are common today. I must admit, I was a bit turned off when I saw that the book had more chapters than I normally read in a romance novel. However, the chapters were noticeably short, so I quickly got over that. I chuckled a couple of times because I can relate to some of the things the main character went through with family and friends always trying to get her to date more. I can also relate to the character’s fear of getting hurt again, so The Calm I Seek is kind of cathartic for me.

Christina Lourens shows how fear can prevent many persons from accepting that second chance at love. The author delves into the awful things that can sometimes happen in relationships that can cause many to stop believing in the power of love. The great thing is, the author did not just expose the awful things, she also shows the wonderful things that can happen when you open your heart to love.

If you are looking for a realistic, mature, romance novel, then I urge you to give The Calm I Seek a try. If you believe that you could never love again because of past failures in love, then this book might renew your faith in the power of love. This is the first time I am enjoying the author’s work, but it will not be the last. This is a great debut novel and I look forward to reading more of the author’s work.
