Loved it! 😍

An engaging read which has the reader rooting for a happy-ever-after ending.

I was engaged from the beginning and felt compelled to read this novel in one sitting. The writing flowed seamlessly, with the author’s quirky and contemporary writing style. The addition of fragments of text messages worked well. Avery and Josh are strong protagonists and the reader is rooting for their relationship to succeed despite the bumps along the way.

I liked the fact that chapter titles were popular songs, and it was a great idea to have an accompanying Spotify playlist.

Avery is an aspiring photographer who has her own business. Things are going well for her, with an exciting maternity and home-birth shoot planned and a wedding photography competition to enter. However, life becomes more complex when her childhood friend, Josh, returns to his hometown. Having promised he would never leave her; he had done just that and followed his dream of performing piano. Ten years have passed. Will he stay around this time?

The author does a good job of illustrating Avery's backstory. Her dad, a renowned neurosurgeon had never been present and her mum was left alone to tackle depression and raise her children. Both things contributng to Avery's attitude and mental health issues as an adult.

The author did a fantastic job of building up tension, leaving the reader longing for the couple to have that important first kiss. Later, the intimate scenes are written sensually and the heat between Avery and Josh was tangible.

This novel is so much more than an easy-read romance. The author sensitively weaves the themes of mental health and trauma from sexual assault into the narrative. I was impressed by the detailed and accurate account of Avery’s panic attacks and how patient and considerate Josh was in light of the trauma she had experienced. This is a great story of hope for survivors, in that they too might be able to find a partner like Josh.

I would definitely recommend this book and will look out for more by the author.
