The Mystery of the Missing Tea Drinker

By

Loved it! 😍

TALKING TEAPOT leads the siblings down a road to suspense, criminal activities, corruption, and danger galore.

Alex and Ollie's father was arrested and taken from them when the boys were very young. Their mother soon disappeared from their lives as well, leaving them in the care of the Grams. For a time, Alex acted as Ollie's brother and father, roles he took very seriously. This a scenario that many young readers can, unfortunately, relate to.

Ollie's brain didn't function like everyone else's. People speculated he couldn't read because of his dyslexia. They underestimated how smart he was, but Ollie soon proved them wrong. His brain saw things others missed, and his mindset made him the key to unlocking the first clue, the anagram: TALKING TEAPOT.

Shortly after Vince, the boys' father, returned home from his incarceration, he soon vanished again. There were no apparent signs he planned to leave his kids alone, intended to abandon them. No warnings whatsoever. Readers will feel Alex's anxiety, his fear of not knowing where his dad is, and if he plans to return home. His fear of (once again) being abandoned. This young man's mental health has taken a beating.

As Alex and Ollie wonder where their father could be, Ollie spots a clue; TALKING TEAPOT was written on paper. They know their father enjoys treasure hunts, anagrams, puzzles, and codes, but this is different. His other 'clues' were education-based since the brothers were homeschooled.

TALKING TEAPOT leads the siblings down a road to suspense, criminal activities, corruption, and danger galore. On more than one occasion, Ollie and Alex must run for their lives and fight to survive.

Ollie and Alex were each impressive in their own right. The brothers proved time and again that they should not be underestimated. Mr. P (Pebbles), their older neighbor, also proved that he still had some pep in his step and his mind wasn't 'gone' like a specific person in town would like others to believe.

The book contained everything the synopsis foreshadowed. Alex and Ollie did decipher and decode clues, elude and bamboozle their pursuers, and outrun and outsmart the kidnappers. My chief complaint was the lack of "clues" for the readers to decipher. I was looking for a more interactive story. Despite that, I enjoyed the storyline and recommend this book to teens and young adults.
