Not all sleuths have to be teenagers or men with a toothpick as even women in retirement age can show the youngsters a thing or two.

Who says retired women can't solve crimes? They were wrong. In this book, Madeline moves to a new retirement community that has all the security and bells and whistles she'll need. Her children have made sure of that. But as soon as she gets there, her neighbor is found dead and she is determined to figure it out despite both her grown children trying to convince her not to.

I love mystery stories. I grew up reading Nancy Drew books. Now that I'm over fifty, I find that all the cozy mysteries are with men of all ages and young women. This book was just a joy. First off, there was the main character that was a little older than me. Yay! Finally a woman of age who gets the job done. But it was so much more than that.

The other characters were great. There was the one who could never get anyone else's name right, the one who is an elderly nerd, the mysterious woman who no one sees, and the older woman who thinks she is still in her twenties. Oh, and the grandson who is smarter than all combined and the daughter who might or might not be part of some secret government agency.

The main character drove this story with her ability to take her deceased husband's teaching as a detective in the police force and put it to use while making new and bizarre friends.

As an avid mystery fan, I try to always guess who did it. With this one, I got it right, but that did not stop me from enjoying the story. I want to read the next one. This is one author I'll be following. If you enjoy mysteries, you need to give this book a chance. You won't regret it.
