Laura Aldofredi – Designer

Hi there! My name is Laura, an Italian animation filmmaker and illustrator based in the Netherlands, with a passion for stories and pictures told in a cinematic way.

Since my MA studies in Animation and Illustration, I've been working for the animation and illustration industry covering a variety of different assignments: from 2d animation productions to children books, illustrations for magazines, cards, ad-hoc designs and private commissions.

My illustration style is very versatile - before approaching a film or book project, I work on art direction level, making sure to find the right style choices that fits the purpose of the story.

In my work I strive to achieve and convey a cinematic feeling. I make use of stylized backgrounds, with a realistic use of light and a careful choice of colors, to enhance a certain mood or feel. In my illustrations I also like to use natural and fantastic elements to recall the fairytale and folktale world.

For me it is important that each drawing transport the "viewer" into a new world, which is believable and authentic.

WORKFLOW

1) Briefing call

I like to meet my clients in a video call to get to know each other better and hear their vision about the project.

2) Character Design

The first thing I'll do is designing the characters. 2x feedback possible in this phase.

3) Sketches / Storyboard

Then I'll work on a storyboard, which will be discussed with the client. 1x feedback is given in this phase.

In case you are asking for a cover book, I will draw two sketches with two different options. You can feedback on the sketch of your choice or ask for a third option/sketch.

4) Color Keys

I will paint rough color keys to give you a good impression of the light, color, mood and general look of the final illustrations. This allows me to share my vision but also to collect your feedbacks in an efficient way.

5) Final Illustration / Final Cover

I paint the final illustrations following the artistic direction agreed in point 4.

1x feedback on the final illustrations is possible only if we work digitally.

FEE & CHARGES

COVER ILLUSTRATION: 950 - 1250 EUR (illustration and standard ready-to-print pdf), depending by the amount of details, the style and the complexity of the illustrations.

Note: For additional printing formats, there might an extra charge.

BOOK INTERIOR ILLUSTRATIONS: 450 - 650 EUR per illustration, depending by the amount of details, the style and the complexity of the illustrations.
