HeForShe Vienna Workshop
“…third is the one with the treasure chest!” Just as the saying goes, our 3rd workshop for YEA 2018/19 was a treasure indeed: full of breaking stereotypes and understanding the meaning of GENDER. Gerhard Wagner, co-founder of HeForShe Vienna – an association in support of a larger, international collective trying to bring equality among all genders in our society today – gave us an introduction to the concept of gender, how gender is perceived in society, and that gender is not a label nor a simple category. We even got to see for ourselves just how meaningless the perceived qualities of some genders (in this case, man and woman) stand up to the qualities of actual people in our lives who identify as a man or woman. Additionally, Gerhard explained some of the ways HeForShe Vienna tackles SGD 5 (gender equality) right here in Vienna from hosting film events to Gaming Girls – Sexism in the gaming industry.
