For our fifth workshop, we got to look into the world of the UNHCR, what they do and why it’s so important. Because of increasingly long conflicts and wars, there are more people than ever before that have had to leave their homes, but many conflicts stay under our radar because they never make their way into the media or public awareness. The UNHCR works to protect the human rights of everyone forced to flee, but this means they have to overcome a number of logistical, political and social challenges. We learnt how food, water, hygiene and temporary housing are as important as providing education for securing the basic needs of the people in the refugee camps.
