UNODC Workshop on Drug Use Prevention

Another big step to understand and master the SDGs was made on 13th December 2018! As part of the YEA Program, Stefanie Schmatz and Heeyoung Park from the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC), held an insightful workshop about the burning topic of “drug use prevention”. Given its importance and relevance in our society, the topic was greatly perceived by the students and led to a very productive discussion. For instance, how can young people take an active part in drug prevention for themselves?
The workshop was divided in two parts: in the first one, the goal was understand the risk factors and determinants of substance use, with a particular focus on the adolescence phase. In the second part more attention was paid to the health risks related to drug use and the importance of prevention. Mrs. Schmatz highlighted the success of the UNODC Youth Initiative, resulting in a series of projects and the creation of a Youth Forum that gathered young people from all over the world to discuss the best tools for prevention.
There was also room for some fun! The workshop ended with a game in which students had to identify what was good prevention and what wasn’t in real-life situations.
Workshop n.2, successfully completed!
